Dynetics,
CAS, & Davidson, LLC Form Joint Venture to Pursue SMDC SETAC
Huntsville, Alabama. May 2001. Dynetics, CAS, and
Davidson Enterprises are pleased to announce the formation of a
new joint venture, Dynetics, CAS & Davidson, LLC.
Dynetics, CAS & Davidson, LLC has been formed
to provide focused, technology-based, full-spectrum support to the
Space and Missile Defense Community through the Systems Engineering
and Technical Assistance Contract (SETAC).
The advances in technology needed to develop and
field successful space and missile defense systems have been inspired
and matured by Huntsville small businesses, including programs such
as the Theater High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system, PATRIOT,
and others.
"We formed the Dynetics, CAS & Davidson
joint venture to bring together the two prime independent system
engineering and technical support contractors who have supported
the Government for these successful missile systems. Dr. Julian
Davidson adds the benefits of over 35 years of senior DoD experience
coupled with a national viewpoint, and lessons-learned in space
and missile defense. This joint venture realizes our vision of an
alliance of Huntsville-founded, Huntsville-headquartered small businesses
focused on achieving enduring excellence in the 21st century for
space and missile defense," said Dr. Marc J. Bendickson, CEO
of Dynetics.
"We believe that, during this decade, the United
States will deploy a National Missile Defense (NMD) system,"
said Dr. Bendickson. "We are excited about this significant
step in national security and are committed to ensuring that the
Government continues to have access to the engineering talent and
resources to make a national missile defense system work in this
decade. SMDC is the US Army's center responsible for space and missile
defense, both of which are areas that are receiving renewed attention
and emphasis from Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld under the
Bush Administration. SMDC has traditionally been a national leader
in new technology thrusts and has guided the development of sensor,
missile, and related phenomenology research and development programs
that form the basis of future ballistic missile defense solutions."
The SETAC recompetition is potentially a 10-year
contract that could generate more than $1 billion in sales. The
majority of SETAC sales to the Dynetics, CAS & Davidson joint
venture will generate tax revenues for Huntsville and Madison County,
keep jobs in Huntsville and Madison County, fund the salaries and
benefits of local high-tech employees, support university research,
and contribute to the revenues of Huntsville and Madison County
firms that provide goods and services. Profits generated as a result
of SETAC sales to the Dynetics, CAS & Davidson joint venture
will also stay in Huntsville, further enhancing the economy of North
Alabama.
One of Huntsville’s legacies is the ability
to successfully develop and field critical defense and space exploration
systems. "As the United States faces future missile threats,
we believe that the national missile defense system should be developed
and engineered in Huntsville. Our companies and our community have
the experience, expertise, and commitment to implement this vitally
important aspect of our Nation's defense," said Dr. Bendickson.
